Nursing Pre-Admission Conferences

In order to receive an application, applicants must attend a mandatory Pre-Admission Conference (PAC) for the semester they want to apply for (Fall or Spring). Below are the PAC dates/times for Downtown Spring 2025 applicants (the Shelby County campus only admits students each Fall semester) as well as the Sign-up Link.

Note:

• Register by 8 a.m. the day of the conference you want to attend.
• Bring your Student ID or another proof of identification.
• Please attend a PAC at the campus where you hope to attend.

Downtown Campus Pre-Admission Conferences are held in the Health Sciences Hall Auditorium (#166A) unless otherwise noted.

Regular Admission vs. Priority Admission

To qualify for regular admission complete of all preadmission requirements with at least a 2.75 Nursing GPA. Priority admission requires all of regular admission plus completion of all prerequisite and corequisite classes with at least a 3.0 Nursing GPA.

Applicants are required to take the HESI A2 Entrance Exam before applying. The HESI is NOT a Pass/Fail exam.

This exam covers 3 areas: Anatomy & Physiology, Math, and Vocabulary. You will take the test at Jefferson's Testing Center (HSH, 3rd floor, Room 376).

If you have issues with any part of signing up for and/or paying for the HESI, please contact either:

• LPNs do NOT have to take the HESI.
• To retake the HESI, please contact the Testing Center at Access*Ability Resource Center (ARC), for applicants with any documented disability, please contact the ARC at (502) 213-7127 or Nursing Prerequisites

• BIO 137: Anatomy & Physiology I (grade of ‘C’ or better).
  • Must be completed within 10 years of first semester of ADN program.
  • Transfer credits must include a Lab and be approved by the ADN program coordinator.

  NOTE: Students can be enrolled in prerequisite courses during the Fall (or Spring) semester and still be eligible to apply for the upcoming Spring (or Fall) semester.

  Nursing & Corequisite Courses

  In addition to program prerequisite courses, new ADN students will complete the following courses:

  First Semester

  • NRS 101: Nursing Care I (9 credit hours)
  • BIO 139: Anatomy & Physiology II (grade of ‘C’ or better); completed within 10 years

  Second Semester

  • NRS 102: Nursing Care II (10 credit hours)
  • ENG 101: Writing I (grade of ‘C’ or better)

  LPN to ADN Transition

  • NRS 200: LPN-A.D.N. Transition (3 credit hours)
  • Prerequisites: BIO 137 & 139; ENG 101; PSY 110; Quantitative Reasoning/Math course at AA/AS level (all with grades of ‘C’ or better)

  Third Semester

  • NRS 203: Nursing Care III (9 credit hours)
  • BIO 225: Medical Microbiology (grade of ‘C’ or better); completed within 10 years

  Fourth Semester

  • NRS 204: Nursing Care IV (10 credit hours)
  • Heritage/Humanities course of student’s choice (grade of ‘C’ or better)

  Practical Nursing

  Attending a PN Preadmission Conference is required and allows eligible students to apply to the PN program. Students who are ready to start the PN program in the upcoming semester must attend a Preadmission Conference. After attending a Preadmission Conference, students will be emailed a link to apply to the PN program.

  When: Preadmission Conferences begin promptly as listed below and generally last one (1) hour.

  Where: Preadmission Conferences are held in-person. Students can attend a Preadmission Conference at both campuses (Downtown and Carrollton). However, it’s recommended that students attend a Preadmission Conference at the campus they want to attend.

  Downtown Campus

  Downtown Preadmission Conferences are held in the Health Science Hall (HSH), Room 253.
